About the Welfare Vehicle

The BTP Federation Welfare Vehicle is a fully equipped van that will serve as a dedicated support space for members during major incidents, events, Federation roadshows, and wellbeing days across the Force. It is a purpose-built facility designed to bring the Federation’s support directly to its members.

The vehicle:

  • Provides a safe, private, and comfortable space for breaks, personal calls, and wellbeing support.

  • Offers essential facilities, including comfortable seating, a private space for making calls, appliances for making hot drinks and heating food, and multiple charging points.

  • Acts as a mobile base for Federation reps and partner organisations (including wellbeing advisors, police charities, and member service companies) to engage with members face-to-face, wherever they are.

  • Enhances access to the Federation and its services.

This vehicle is a direct investment in you, our members. It’s about your wellbeing, your access to support and advice, and your connection with the Federation. It fills a critical gap by providing facilities that many officers currently lack during operational deployments. We hope it will also improve communication, the visibility of Reps and access to the advice and guidance we can provide.

We’re committed to supporting our people, especially those working in challenging circumstances or remote locations. The aim of the Welfare Vehicle is to improve members’ access to the Federation and its services, as well as those provided by partners and stakeholders.

The vehicle includes comfortable seating, power to charge devices, and a quiet room for making private calls. There is a fridge and a microwave, as well as first aid supplies and wellbeing materials.

It will primarily be used during the Federation’s regular station visits as well as wellbeing events in conjunction with partners and stakeholders. Details of upcoming visits will be shared via email, social media and the Federation website, as appropriate.

Frequency will depend on identified needs. Some locations may receive regular visits, while others may see the vehicle during specific events.

Yes, you’ll find light refreshments, comfortable seating, and a calm space to recharge (both you and your phone).

Thanks to our partners, wellbeing resources, mental health information, and self-care tools will be available. In some cases, health checks (e.g. blood pressure) may also be offered.

In addition to planned events, the welfare vehicle can be deployed to support officers during major incidents and traumatic events.

We aim to respond as quickly as possible. The speed of deployment will depend on the location of the vehicle and drivers, road conditions, and the nature of the incident.

The control room is able to contact the Federation Executive in the event of an emergency.

You will be using the vehicle while on duty, so all the usual rules apply. We ask you to treat the welfare vehicle with respect. We encourage you to make the most of the facilities, but ask that you tidy up after yourself. If you encounter any difficulties with the vehicle or its facilities, please speak to the Fed rep in attendance.

We welcome all feedback, and you can scan the QR code onboard the vehicle to share your views directly with the Federation. More immediate concerns should be raised with the Fed rep in attendance.
