Special Constable Andrew Foley has received the British Transport Police Federation’s Special of the Year award, in recognition of his exceptional commitment, professionalism and selfless contribution to policing.
Alongside his full-time role as a train driver for Transport for London, Andrew Foley volunteers with British Transport Police’s Special Constabulary. He regularly gives significant time to support demanding operational policing activity.
Andrew was deployed alongside Public Order Officers in Hull and Rotherham in the summer of 2024. His willingness to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with regular officers in challenging conditions reflects his resilience, reliability and commitment to public service.
He has also made a major contribution to high-profile national operations, including volunteering for a full week around the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and supporting the coronation of King Charles III. Andrew helped provide reassurance, resilience and operational capability during these events of national significance.
Beyond operational duties, Andrew has shown a strong commitment to improving the Special Constabulary itself. He has proactively organised and delivered professional development for fellow Special Constables, covering practical skills such as vehicle searches, report writing, communications resolutions and other core policing skills.
Stuart Cowan, Chair of BTP Federation, said “Special Constable Andrew Foley represents the very best of the Special Constabulary. Alongside his full-time job, he has repeatedly given his own time to support demanding policing operations, national events and public order deployments.
“His operational commitment, selflessness and dedication to developing fellow Special Constables make him an outstanding ambassador for volunteer policing and a highly deserving winner of the Special of the Year award.”
