Sergeant Mark Turnbull has been named Cop of the Year for his exceptional leadership, dedication, and operational impact at King's Cross and St Pancras.

Since October 2025, Sgt Turnbull has transformed policing performance across two of the UK’s busiest transport hubs. Under his direction, Operation Coventry delivered notable reductions in violent crime, sexual offences, luggage theft and shoplifting. In the first few months, officers made 136 arrests.

By March 2026, the operation continued to build momentum, with a further 45 arrests and sustained proactive work targeting violence, theft, shoplifting, robbery, drugs and public order offending.

Sgt Turnbull’s approach has gone far beyond day-to-day policing. He has led and directed notable casework, including the swift arrest and remand of an offender involved in a £12,000 luggage theft, the rapid identification and imprisonment of a serial shoplifter, and the securing of a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order against a persistent offender.

Internally, Sgt Turnbull has had a positive impact on morale and professional standards. Colleagues have described him as professional, committed and consistently willing to put the public, partners and colleagues first.

Chair of BTP Federation, Stuart Cowan, said: “Sgt Mark Turnbull has delivered sustained crime reduction, improved public confidence, stronger partnerships and inspirational leadership. In doing so, he has demonstrated the dedication, integrity and positive impact that make him a very worthy winner of BTP Federation’s Cop of the Year award.”
