New study: Divorce and relationship break up

Have you experienced a divorce, civil partnership dissolution or long-term relationship break-up, whilst serving as a police officer in the past ten years?

If so, you’re invited to take part in a survey on the impact of divorce and separation on police officers' wellbeing and efficiency. This research is being conducted by a team of retired police officers and academics from the Open University and Liverpool John Moores University who have undertaken similar research nationally.

The purpose of the research is to provide a better understanding of police officers’ experiences of divorce and separation on wellbeing and efficiency and raise awareness of associated issues among police officers and the people who manage them.

The survey is interested in finding out four things in particular:

  1. How going through a divorce/break-up impacted you personally, and your work.

  2. Whether your work in the police may have contributed in any way to your divorce/breakup.

  3. Your personal experience of support from your managers, your colleagues, the policing organisation and its policies, and the extent to which this helped or did not help.

  4. Your views on what would be desirable in terms of support for those going through divorce/break-up within the policing organisation, and your views on what could or should be done better or differently to better support colleagues in this situation.

Your answers will be anonymous and treated confidentially. The results will be used in transcripts and written reports to inform practice and policy.
