A further five Federation reps have been trained in Post-Incident Procedures (PIP).

Michael Natavio from TFL Central, Leighton Rivers and Lisa Scott-Savage from C-Division, Naomi DeCastro from B-Division South and Bryan O’Neill from D Division, have all recently taken part in a training course delivered by the Police Firearms Officers’ Association. More than half of reps are now PIP trained, ensuring cover across the Force area.

Post-Incident Procedures (PIP) will begin in all situations following police contact that may have resulted in death or serious injury, revealed failings in command or caused danger to officers or the public. Contrary to what some may believe, PIP isn’t just about firearms incidents; there is a likelihood of any of colleagues being involved in an incident that results in a PIP.

“Training our reps in Post-Incident Procedures is essential, said Mark Marshallsay, BTP Federation’s General Secretary. “Officers who are involved in a PIP are advised to seek immediate advice from a Federation Rep because it’s our role to guide and support them through that process.

“As well as seeking clarity on an officer’s status (witness or suspect), reps ensure colleagues have access to appropriate medical and legal advice. Welfare is paramount throughout PIP.”

Mark added: “We want as many reps as possible to be PIP trained and further courses will take place later this year.”
