The cost of living is hitting the pockets of police officers hard. The findings from the Police Family Finance Index from Metfriendly highlight that the vast majority say they have financial concerns (86%) and some (27%) are missing meals due to lack of money.
In fact, on all indicators around financial wellbeing, the police family is in a worse position than they were six months ago.
The survey provides detailed insights into these financial pressures, which helps police forces and other organisations to respond to those needs. The last national report was used in 2023 PRRB submissions and cited by the final PRRB report as being one of the pieces of evidence used when securing the recommended level of national pay rise.
The Autumn 2023 survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7R9DRTH. As an added incentive, eligible respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win one of ten £100 Amazon.co.uk gift cards. Entry terms and conditions apply.
Annette Petchey, Chief Executive Officer, Metfriendly said: "To know that more than a quarter of serving police officers and support staff simply cannot afford to eat is unforgivable. The Police play a critical role in keeping us safe, yet they are putting themselves and potentially others at risk by having to play financial roulette and making difficult choices between paying bills and feeding their family or themselves."
