British Transport Police has signed up to the Dying to Work Charter, and as advocates of this vital scheme, we have signed it too.
The Dying to Work campaign is a Trades Union Congress (TUC) initiative that champions stronger employment protections for terminally ill workers and encourages employers to sign a voluntary charter. The campaign aims to prevent employees from being forced out of their jobs after a terminal diagnosis and to ensure they can choose how to spend their final months with dignity and security, which includes keeping their death-in-service benefits.
We believe colleagues who are living with terminal conditions deserve the choice of how to spend their final months, so what does the Charter mean in reality?
By signing up, we’re all committing to:
Ensuring employees with a terminal diagnosis are treated with empathy and respect.
Providing security in work and peace of mind during incredibly difficult times.
Supporting affected employees to make informed choices about their future.
Our General Secretary, Ryan Griffiths, is pictured signing the Charter below. He said, "Imagine facing a terminal diagnosis and worrying about losing your job. The Dying to Work Charter ensures dignity, security, and choice for employees during the hardest time of their lives.
"I'm pleased that BTP have signed up to the charter and BTP Federation will continue to support and advocate for this important scheme. It's all about doing the right thing when it matters most."
