BTP Federation has launched its new welfare and wellbeing vehicle.
The organisation has purchased a Peugeot Boxer and funded conversion work so it can serve as a dedicated support space for members during major incidents, events, Federation roadshows, and wellbeing days across the Force.
At the Federation's recent conference, Chair Stuart Cowan addressed volunteer Federation Representatives, senior BTP officers, and members of the Police Authority on the physical and mental challenges officers face. He highlighted the role that resources such as the welfare vehicle can play in supporting them.
Facilities on board
The new vehicle:
Provides a purposefully designed safe, private, and comfortable space for breaks, refreshments, and wellbeing support.
Offers essential amenities such as comfortable seating, a private space for making calls, the ability to make hot drinks and heat food, and several charging points.
Acts as a mobile base for Federation reps and partner organisations (including wellbeing advisors, police charities, and member service companies) to engage with members face-to-face, wherever they are.
Enhances access to the Federation and its services.
Direct investment in our members
Stuart Cowan said: “This vehicle is a direct investment in our members. It’s about their wellbeing, their access to support and advice, and their connection with the Federation.
“It fills a critical gap by providing facilities that many officers currently lack during operational deployments. A hot drink and the opportunity to dry off and make a quick call home can make all the difference during ongoing incidents.”
The vehicle has already been tested at an operational event in Ascot, where officers were able to board the vehicle for short breaks and take refreshments. It also featured at a wellbeing event in Glasgow organised by BTP’s Wellbeing Team.
Stuart Cowan added: “As well as being a vital resource at major incidents, we hope the vehicle will improve communication and members’ access to the Federation, as well as services provided by partners and stakeholders; particularly those who are invested in our members’ health and wellbeing.”
