Federation observes terror response exercise

BTP Federation was recently invited to observe an exercise which tested elements of the multi-agency response to a terrorist attack.

Our Chairman, Nigel Goodband, joined guests including Chris Heaton-Harris, Minister of State, DfT; Baroness Vere, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, DfT; senior leaders from train operating and security companies; Ron Barclay-Smith, BTPA Chair and Hugh Ind, BTPA Chief Executive.

Following a briefing about the work of BTP's Special Operations department there was a simulation of a terrorist attack and the response by emergency services. Each stage of the exercise was explained to observers, who also watched a demonstration of a briefing between first responders and were told about the kit and equipment being used.

After the exercise Nigel Goodband said: "Firearms is important to us as a force, particularly given the ongoing security threat. As Chair of the Federation the simulation gave me a greater understanding of what the officers we represent may face and the likely impact on them of dealing with a major incident.

"It was also an opportunity to reiterate the role we, as a Federation, have in offering our support and guidance, including during Post Incident Procedures."
