South East Allowance

The SE Allowance was introduced to recognise the additional cost of living in the South East of England. It is paid at a rate determined by the Chief Constable with regard to location and retention needs and cannot exceed £3000 per annum (as per Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB) guidelines).

It was recently announced that officers in several additional locations (denoted by *) will receive the allowance:

  • Reading
  • Slough
  • Stevenage


£2000 allowance
  • Ashford
  • Colchester
  • Gatwick
  • Maidstone
  • Southend


£1000 allowance
  • Benfleet*
  • Bournemouth*
  • Brighton
  • Cambridge*
  • Portsmouth
  • Southampton
