World Suicide Prevention Day
10 September

In the UK, men are three times as likely to die by suicide than women. While there has been a reduction in such deaths, the numbers are still very concerning.

Thursday 10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day. The aim of the day is to encourage people to talk about the issue and demonstrate that recovery is possible.

There are various sources of independent expert support from The Samaritans to Rethink Mental Illness. If you, or someone you know is struggling, you can speak to trained advisors in confidence.

Police Mutual has issued a suicide prevention guide which offers practical advice and links to several organisations that can help.

They have also compiled a sleep guide. Shift work can have a huge impact on sleep patterns and a consistent lack of sleep affects us physically and emotionally. Officers and staff may find the advice helpful.
