Coronavirus: An update

Like most organisations, we and BTP are closely following the announcements from the Government and public health bodies. Regular updates are being posted on the intranet; please take the time to read these.

Update - 12 March 2020 from ACC O'Callaghan

If officers are self-isolating for seven days, they should email c19@btp.pnn.police.uk with their name, police number, work location, a telephone contact number and the details of when they should have been working next.

Officers should also contact their line manager in the usual way.

Travel insurance

For those of our members who are due to travel over the coming weeks, George Burrows, providers of our group insurance scheme, have clarified the position on travel insurance:

At present, based on Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) guidelines if a member does travel and contracts Coronavirus they would be covered, subject to policy terms and conditions.

However, should the FCO advice change prior to the departure date and subsequently advises against ALL travel then clearly the member cannot go and the policy would be triggered to indemnify the member for losses not covered by any other policies.

If during the trip the FCO advice changes and the member is compelled to return (evacuate) then the policy will operate.

If a member decides to cancel out of personal choice prior to the FCO deeming the destination unsafe to travel, then the policy would not cover any losses in this circumstance. We would advise that members speak to their travel operators/accommodators to understand their protocol currently also.
