Submission to Assault on Emergency Workers consultation

Plans to double the maximum prison term for people who assault emergency workers are being considered by the government.

Two years ago, a law change doubled the maximum term from six months to 12 in England and Wales. Ministers are now considering a further increase to two years.

Last year, 795 assaults were recorded against BTP officers with 196 resulting in injury. BTP Federation was invited to participate in the government's consultation.

Thanks to those officers who shared their stories with us; your experiences and feelings about the sentences your attackers received informed the content of our submission.
