The award winners are:

PC Julie Marshallsay and PC Paul Quest (Liverpool), who climbed under a train to save a man's life at Liverpool Lime Street Station.

PC Karla Fox (Reading), a rookie police officer who gave life-saving first aid to a man who had collapsed at Reading train station.

PC Jaspal Bassan, PC Hassan Mirza and PC Danny Heeroo (London), who evacuated residents and neighbours from a house fire, just before a large explosion seriously damaged the building.

PC Gary Reader and PC Matthew Linley (Leeds), who pulled a woman to safety as she tried to jump off the Leeds Bridge in the early hours of the morning.

PC Liam Perry and PC Chris Jones (Cardiff), who ran into a block of flats to evacuate residents from a fire.

Nigel Goodband, Chairman of British Transport Police Federation, said: "This ceremony is important to us because it gives us a chance to acknowledge and recognise just some of the officers whose valour and unwavering commitment delivers an excellent service to the travelling public."

"Some of these incidents might not be the sort you would expect transport police officers to face, but they show how varied our work really is."

The British Transport Police Federation Awards of Excellence were sponsored by Police Mutual. Stephen Mann, CEO of Police Mutual, said: "We are very proud of our involvement in recognising the commitment of police officers who face extremely challenging situations every day. Our support of these awards reflects the incredible respect we have for the work of the police service. I have found the stories of the nominees deeply impressive and inspiring."
